New eco design advisor
17 Jun 2008Auckland City Council has appointed environmental communications specialist Eion Scott to the role of eco design advisor, offering free, tailored advice to Auckland homeowners and designers on how to build a better, more sustainable home.
Eion brings experience with Environment Canterbury where he was an air quality communications advisor, assisting with the launch and marketing of the Clean Heat Project. The project has been running in Christchurch for five years and has to date provided subsidies to more than 11,000 wood-burning households to help them install cleaner forms of heating and insulation.
The eco design service provides independent advice on home building and renovation projects to building professionals and homeowners. The advisors give tips on making houses more efficient in terms of energy, water and resource use as well as providing leads to more detailed information and assessment tools.
Auckland is the latest council to join the scheme, which has been operating since September 2006, initially at Waitakere and Hamilton City Councils and Kapiti Coast District Council. Others to join recently include Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Wellington City Council, Sustainable Wanaka and Queenstown Lakes District Council.
The service is an initiative of BRANZ and is funded through the Ministry for the Environment’s Sustainable Management Fund, EECA and Building Research.
