Green Credentials Add Value To Property
15 May 2007Vendors are seeing green credentials as selling points, and buyers are responding with one in ten people prepared to pay up to 25 percent more for a 'green' home, according to a recent poll by allrealestate.co.nz.
An overwhelming 47.52 percent of respondents believed that having one or more environmentally friendly features around the home would make it more saleable, with a quarter (18.81%) predicting the value of the property can attract a premium of 10 percent more if on the market.
Shaun Di Gregorio, allrealestate.co.nz general manager, said "As sustainability moves up on everyone's agenda, properties that are environmentally friendly are definitely becoming more popular."
allrealestate.co.nz has also witnessed a significant increase in advertisements noting the sustainable features of property.
"In fact over the last three months there has been a 165% increase in the use of 'green' buzz words like heat pumps, solar water heaters, water-efficient shower heads, energy-efficient and 5 star ratings popping up in listings advertising copy," Mr Di Gregorio said.
"With the cooler months now upon us, energy efficiency is coming to the fore in the minds of buyers, and sellers would be wise to reap the benefits by vastly increasing both the value and the saleability of their properties by implementing relatively low-cost measures," he added.
